Onwards & Upwards – A Resource with Strategies for Grieving & Supporting
Maureen Meredith, one of our inspirational Vital friends, has produced a downloadable booklet – ‘Onwards and Upwards – Strategies for Grieving and Supporting’ – a legacy for her son whom she lost to cancer. We encourage everyone to read this booklet as we will all, at some stage in life, lose someone we love. We send many, many thanks to Maureen for sharing her thoughts and experience and allowing us to be a small part of disseminating her valuable resource.
Maureen shares in her own words:
“There are no words to describe the pain of losing a child, no matter what age. You don’t expect that your child will pass before you. My son lost his battle with cancer, just over a year ago in Western Australia.
Many people have helped me on my journey of grieving for my son as well as the other twelve significant people who I have also lost.
There is a saying that has become my family’s motto – onwards and upwards. This is the choice that we have made to grieve and also live well beyond our loss.
My son was a loving, funny and helpful man who would want us to help other people during their toughest time, so I have written a book called Onwards and Upwards – Strategies for Grieving and Supporting. My book outlines the lessons that we have learnt and the strategies and choices that we have made. I made a conscious decision to keep my book simple and concise.
In an attempt to stay balanced and healthy, my family have been helped by many professionals including; psychologists, counsellors, massage therapists and reflexologists. My son enjoyed and was comforted by many head, shoulder and foot massages when in home palliative care.
I also decided to take up painting and the four paintings in my book provided me with a form of meditation, relaxation and also the challenge that I needed.
I am not an expert in grieving and nothing can bring back my son but the knowedge that my book may help others may answer the question that I always ask – why?
I invite you to share my free ebook in the hope that you might find some strategies that may make your journey a little easier. My book is downloadable and printable – www.onwardsandupwards.net.au
Onwards and Upwards – Strategies for Grieving and Supporting – is dedicated to my son and is his legacy.”
